Weather in the Mountains

Each week I get calls from folks with reservations...."Is it going to rain all weekend?"....."The Weather Channel says you have a {fill in the blank} percent chance of scattered showers"

We know that you don't want to take a camping vacation and get rained out---that wouldn't be fun at all! Sometimes we will get one of those big storms that comes across the country and we'll have a few rainy days in a row--but generally the rain is scattered and moves through pretty quickly.

Remember that none of the weather web sites or TV shows are 100% accurate about the weather--and they're even less accurate for things that are going to happen a few days away or next weekend.   I find that Intellicast.com does a great job for our area.

The Cherokee Indians say that the "Mountains make the weather."

As the weather moves into the mountains it will break up and a potential thunderstorm becomes a gentle shower.  I've watched it rain on the mountain just north of the campground while we were dry.
The Smoky Mountains are considered a temperate rain forest.   The rain that moves through the Smokies keeps it lush and cool and green.   And the only time to see the "Smoke" rise is after a rain.  (This is a picture I took near Balsam Mountain on the Blue Ridge Parkway.)

So come prepared for mountain weather---bring shorts and swim suits; bring jeans and a sweat shirt and a jacket for cool nights and mornings. Plan to set up a dining canopy or awning.  Bring a tarp to put over your tent....or call early enough to reserve one of our tent shelter sites.  We have gravel in our sites so that if it does rain, you won't be in the mud.  We also have a list of fun things to do on a rainy day!   And you might be lucky enough to see a rainbow!

Cherokee Survivors Rally Weekend

This past weekend was the Spring Cherokee Survivors Motorcycle Rally & Concert.  We had guests from Florida to Virginia here to enjoy the mountain roads and all the fun at the rally!

The weather cooperated until Saturday afternoon when the rains came!   True campers and Harley riders made the most of the weekend--what else are blue tarps and rain suits for?

Make plans for the Fall Rally which will be September 10-12.   Call our toll-free number, 877-497-6161 and we'll save you a site!

Happy Campers!

In 10 years we have been blessed with many loyal customers who come back year after year!

It's been fun to watch children grow, and in some cases come back with their children!

Here are a few new "Happy Camper" notes:

"I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our visit to your campground. On our next visit to Cherokee we will be staying with you again. We really liked the size of your campsites and also the peace and quiet."

"I wanted to drop you a line and let you know that in our travels, and we stayed in many campgrounds, your campgrounds were the nicest. Of course, it could have been the hospitality of the hosts, your maps of local sites to see were wonderful. However, the grounds were the cleanest; the bathrooms, the cleanest and the sites themselves were great. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

"Just wanted to thank you for your hospitality during our Easter weekend visit. The park is all that we thought it would be and more. Very impressed with the clean bathhouse and area. The location is perfect for anyone with a motorcycle looking for a family R.V. site centrally located. We will be back soon. "

It's time to go camping! Looking forward to seeing old and new friends this season!

Happy Easter!

My favorite mountain flower is the forsythia. When I see this glorious bush blooming it just makes me happy! The weather is perfect this weekend and we've got a number of new folks in for the holiday weekend.

Our crew of West Virginia fishermen just left this morning after a successful week on the river! They gifted me with some beautiful trout all filleted and ready to cook--going to fire up the grill and cook it for supper tonight!

Happy Easter!
